I Skip Stretching. My Girlfriend Gave Me a Solution.

Yesterday, that quote hit me straight in the face.

After wrapping up some work I decided to spend about 20-30 minutes stretching since stretching consistently is a main fitness goal for me this year.

Unfortunately, I HATE stretching.

I would rather go to the gym 2-3x a day and do full workouts before spending 30 minutes stretching.

And because I hate stretching…I’m more likely to skip stretching.

Not a great recipe for success, right?

Well I was jokingly telling my girlfriend about this hatred towards stretching when she said…

“Why don’t you just stretch after you workout?”

Makes sense right?

She knows the gym is a daily, morning routine for me. I never skip.

So to her, it seemed obvious. Just stretch right after you workout, stupid!

Funnily enough, this is the exact same reason why I started working out in the morning a few years ago.

After a full day at work I’d feel tired. Drained. Craving a little Netflix.

That led to me skipping days in the gym after work.

So I gave myself a “NO EXCUSES ALLOWED” system for success.

Wake up and workout before you do anything else.

I had no excuses to get in my way.

And it worked.

I stayed consistent and I enjoyed my workouts more, even if it took some time to get used to waking up at 5am.

Sometimes you need to stop, take a step back, and reexamine what it is that you’re doing to create a plan that will work.

I kept telling myself every day that I’d workout, get work done, and then stretch before or after dinner.

I was giving myself too many opportunities to fail.

The new plan completely eliminates those potential points of failure.

From now on, I’ll get my workout done and then force myself to stretch.

If I don’t, I walk out of that gym knowing I didn’t stick to my plan.
