The Rise of "Rage Rooms"

The Rise of

Exercise is weird.

If you tell someone to run 5 miles they’ll hate you and every step of that run.

But if you get them to play a game of soccer and run 5 miles in the process, they’ll have fun.

The result is the same but the means to the end changes everything.

This got me thinking about a new type of business I’ve been seeing more over the past few years: rage rooms.

This is what a rage room looks like 👇

They’re made for those moments in life when you’re so mad or stressed out that you just need to let it out.

That’s right. You pay to break stuff.

Working out without the work

Maybe you’ve done this yourself or maybe you’re thinking, “Hey, that probably wouldn’t feel so bad. I could see myself doing that.”

Think about this for a second. If you really gave it 100% effort and tried to completely destroy everything in the room, you’d probably be completely exhausted and covered in sweat by the end of it.

You could even say…it’s a good workout?

Just like the example I brought up earlier about running 5 miles, the end result is the same (a great full-body workout) but the means to that end is different.

This is one of the most important mental hurdles to overcome when you decide to start prioritizing exercise into your lifestyle.

Maybe lifting weights is your version of “running 5 miles”. But what if yoga, kickboxing, tennis, or cycling is your “playing soccer while running 5 miles”?

Sometimes it’s all about finding the right path that leads you to the result you want.

Exercising for mental health

More importantly, I would argue that exercise is a better form of stress relief and better for your mental health than these rage rooms.

And I promise, I’m not just saying that to say that. I’m not like those keto fanatics who swear cauliflower pizza is just as delicious as good ol’ gluten-filled pizza. It’s not.

Just think back on all of the people who were depressed and anxious and swore they couldn’t get out of bed, couldn’t go outside, and couldn’t exercise.

Then Pokemon Go came out and they had a reason to go outside. Suddenly, due to the magical powers of Vitamin D, nature, and walking…sometimes even running for that oh so rare Vaporeon…they all felt better.

If you’re trying to get serious about adding exercise into your lifestyle, embrace trial and error.

Most yoga studios offer classes for free, sometimes an entire week!

Every martial arts gym I’ve been to gave me my first class for free.

Try something new. If it felt like running 5 miles, keep trying until it feels like you’re just playing a game of soccer.
